Charters
To Koh Chang - Thailand

The
Gulf of Thailand and the Koh Chang Archipelago offers Superb
Sailing Conditions
The sailing in Thailand is second to none, with warm waters
and unspoilt tropical Islands and the best way to go sailing
in Thailand is with a yacht charter. Phuket has long been
known for its spectacular Islands but this new and exciting
sailing ground is fast becoming the area of choice for those
that like wind when they go sailing. The sailing area, stretching
from Pattaya to the Ko Chang Archipelago offers some 200 nm
of pristine waters with over 50 tropical islands to explore.
But the biggest attraction of this new sailing ground is the
superb sailing conditions. Being several latitudes higher
than Phuket, the Gulf of Thailands sailing grounds offer consistent
wind all year round ranging from 10 to 15 knots, simply perfect
sailing conditions.

Sailing
Destinations in the Gulf of Thailand, Pattaya to Koh Chang

From
Gulf Charters, Koh Chang is a typical 2 day sail. Most
of the islands off Trat's coastline belong to a national marine
park. Ko Chang (Elephant island), at 492 sq km, is the second
largest island of Thailand. The park encompasses 192 sq km
of land surface and 458 sq km of sea. Ko Chang itself is about
50 % undisturbed island rainforest. The 30 km long, 8-13 km
wide and 744 m high island is located near the border of Cambodia.
The jungle seems wild and the mountains are often covered
in clouds. Wild pigs, monkeys and snakes roam free. Small
villages dot the coastline. The villagers live on fishing
and cultivation of coconut and rubber trees. Islands of romance,
they are lined with pristine beaches just waiting for your
a few footprints in the white sand. The clear warms waters
invite all to relax, swim and snorke.

The
evenings are for a campfire and a fish barbeque bought fresh
from the fishing boats or caught during the day's sail. Short
trips with the dinghy into small rivers through mangrove swamp
or to visit small fishing villages are easy. On Ko Chang,
there are several exotic waterfalls to explore. They can be
reached by a (substantial) walk through the beautiful rainforest
on a small path. A cool refreshing swim in the waterfall pools
may be in order, before a trip up the steep path to the top
of the fall. For divers, the Ko Chang Archipelago has plenty
of opportunities from wreck diving (a 100 m battleship in
just 12 m depth), a shot down airplane from the Second World
War and the many coral reefs.

If
you've chartered before, then you know that nothing is more
important than your cruising safety and comfort. If this is
your first time sailing Thailand, let's get acquainted! Depending
on your level of experience, we can recommend an itinerary
which is fun and relaxing. You'll find many amenities not
often found on other charter boats, such as refrigeration
and GPS and (on larger models) generators and auto-pilot.
Our charter boats are clean and well-maintained. We work hard
to provide safe, seaworthy yachts. Our fleet includes catamarans
and mono hulls chosen for their exceptional reliability, comfortable
interiors and agility under sail. They're fast, fun and easy
to sail! Our cruising catamarans are extremely popular, with
roomy interiors; shallow draft and lots of deck space for
sunning or entertaining. Experience the thrill of sailing
without heeling! For a complete layout and rates of available
vessels, see our Charter Rates. To view the standard equipment
description, see our Fleet Guide.
Charter
Basics
Bareboating vs. Skippering
Sailing
Thailand's Gulf, the conditions are nearly always perfect.
Overnight anchorages are available close to deserted Island
beaches. Navigation is easy. Nearby islands like Koh Chang
and Koh Samet are easy destinations. Skipper qualification
for bareboat chartering is based on your previous boating
experience.
Travel
Arrangements
Our travel partners should be able to find you the best possible
fares to Pattaya. In addition, we have negotiated rates with
several hotels and car rental agencies in the area.
Sleep
Aboard
No problem. If you're scheduled to arrive after 2 p.m., there
probably won't be enough time for you to complete your briefings
and make your way to your first anchorage. So we may be able
to offer arrival day Sleep aboardprivileges at one-half the
daily charter rate. Enjoy a restful evening aboard your yacht,
then begin your charter the following day.The sleep aboard
option could depend on the schedule of the charter that immediately
precedes your charter start. Gulf Charters normally needs
24 to 48 hours to prepare a yacht for your use. If you would
prefer to spend the evening at a hotel, Gulf Charters will
be happy to make reservations for you.
Charter
Length
With Gulf Charters, a charter week is seven full sailing days,
noon to noon, beginning on the day of the week you choose.
Don't settle for anything less. Of course, you may sail for
longer or shorter charters, but a charter day is a full 24
hours, always!
Cell
Phones
Gulf Charters yachts are equipped with a cell phone to make
it easy for you to contact the base, make dive or dinner reservations,
or call home. (Promise you won't call your office, though!)
In addition, the VHF radio can be used for a "patch call"
through V.I. Radio to anywhere in the world.
Packing
Pack lightly, in soft luggage that can be easily stowed aboard
your yacht. Life is simple in paradise. If you've packed more
than a carry-on per person, you've packed too much. You'll
need bathing suits, cotton shorts and shirts, and casual eveningwear.
Jackets and ties are definitely not required. Shoes should
be soft-soled sandals or boat shoes. Most important is sun
protection: a broad-brimmed hat, baseball caps, loose cotton
coverups, plenty of sunscreen. Bring a windbreaker or cotton
sweater for cool evenings. And don't forget your camera and
lots of film and CD's/
Snorkel
and SCUBA
We'll provide snorkel gear for your crew. There's a dive shop
at the marina that will rent tanks and arrange for lessons,
certification, or rendezvous dives.
Electrical
Power
All our yachts have an inverter that will operate a blender
or microwave, power your hair dryer and charge your video
camera battery. You'll look wonderful on camera! Keep in mind
that this system must be managed, inasmuch as the inverter
cannot operate all AC appliances simultaneously.
Credit
Cards
Credit cards and travelers checks are accepted at most shops
and restaurants. You should carry some cash for smaller restaurants
and beach bars. The Thai Baht the currency of Thailand. There
are ATMs in Pattaya and Jomtien
Passports
It's always a good idea to travel with your passport, and
some airlines now require one. If you sail to islands in both
Malaysia or Cambodia, it will expedite Customs formalities
if your crew carries passports.
