Nestled amid coconut palms overlooking its very own beach, Amanpuri is a tranquil haven where relaxation and regeneration come naturally.

Amanpuri embodies the inner spirit of the Thai culture while allowing nature to reign supreme. The natural beauty combined with sincere warmth and a genuine soul allows for complete rejuvenation.

Amanpuri translated in Sanskrit as place of peace was opened in 1988, the first born to the Aman ‘family’. This tranquil prodigy has pride of place on Phuket in a secluded natural coconut grove on a peninsula leading down to a soft, crescent shaped beach overlooking a mesmerizing turquoise Andaman Sea. Amanpuri continues to evolve with a peaceful purity, which is reflected in its gracious service, and the sympathetic construction of its pavilions, villas, and stylish midnight blue pools.

close at hand

Amanpuri Hotel Phuket | âçáÃÁ ÍÁѹ»ØÃÕ ÀÙà¡çµ

Although Phuket’s charm lies in its natural beaches and jungles, there are many interesting options to explore around Amanpuri.

island touring
When the ‘James Bond’ team filmed part of Man with the Golden Gun in Phang Nga Bay, Phuket achieved international fame. Soon, hotels were built, small towns rose and the population quadrupled. Talang was the major town until 150 years ago. Today, the most colourful streets can be seen in the capital, Phuket Town, from shopping to dining and resort staff will be pleased to make recommendations and reservations. Its central market bustles from early morning to noon, and the Butterfly Garden and the Aquarium are popular options. Phuket has two museums, one in Phuket Town and the other in Talang, the latter with some excellent maps and, inexplicably, a large collection of artefacts from the Mollucas. There are about 30 Buddhists temples on the island, among them, Wat Chalong, with its gilt statues of two revered monks; Wat Phra Thong with its half-buried Buddha statue and Wat Phra Nang Sang which includes 3,000 year old Buddha heads and some interesting allegorical frescoes. Phuket also has several Islamic Mosques. Private-car tours of the island’s countryside sights can be arranged. Hikers and nature lovers will enjoy the four-hour morning trek into the rainforest through the virgin jungle of Khao Phra Thaeo National Park and elephant treks are available.

festivals
In addition to national Thai festivals, Phuket celebrates two major and unique events. The Phuket Vegetarian Festival, which typically occurs in October, coincides with the Chinese calendar’s ninth lunar month. Each year, devotees at six major Chinses shrines abstain from all vices. The annual King’s Cup Regatta takes place each December. This is one of Asia’s leading regattas and enjoys the royal patronage of the King of Thailand. Competitors from around the world from world-class sailors to weekend pleasure boaters race offshore Phuket’s major beaches and also make a big run to the Phi Phi Islands.

shopping
Souvenirs can be found in shops around the island. Seashells and coconut art are plentiful. Nielloware – black silverware finished with intricate designs – is produced here. Thai silk, antiques and pearls of high quality can also be found.

amanpuri weddings

Amanpuri Hotel Phuket | âçáÃÁ ÍÁѹ»ØÃÕ ÀÙà¡çµ

Set high on a peninsula overlooking the Andaman Sea, Amanpuri’s Villa Homes provide a picturesque setting for an informal Thai Buddhist, Christian or non-religious wedding blessing. Set amidst the coconut trees the two to six-bedroom Villa Homes have a living and open air dining sala, separate bedroom pavilions and spacious common areas with their own pool. The couple are then blessed with holy water. These are available for half-day, full-day and overnight charters. They can also serve as the venue for a small ceremony.

location & map

First mentioned by Ptolemy in the 2nd century, Phuket was a regular port of call for Arab and Chinese ships. Portuguese and Chinese settlements began to appear in the 18th century, and until the middle of the 19th century, tigers and elephants wandered freely in local jungles. Phuket is the largest island in Thailand and located off the country’s southern coast. It is largely mountainous with a range in the west running from north to south. The mountains of Phuket form the southern end of the Phuket mountain range which extends for 440km from the Kra Isthmus. Phuket is 50km long and 21km at its widest point. Connected to Thailand’s Phang Nga province by bridge, the island is surrounded by the azure Andaman Sea, which joins the Indian Ocean to the south. Well over half of the island is covered by forest; the northern Khao Phra Thaeo National Park protects more than 20 square kilometres of rainforest.
