Come
and see for yourself why 15 Palms is everyones favourite
place to chill and relax on the paradise island of Koh Chang!!
Koh
Chang literally translates as Elephant Island due to when
it was originally approached by sea it was likened to a sleeping
elephant. It is the second largest island in Thailand, but
thankfully, due to the mountains and rainforest it has not
developed at the same pace as other islands in Thailand.
In
1982 the island together with 46 small islands became protected
as the Mu Koh Chang Marine National Park. It was not until
the year 2000 that a paved road was built, bringing electricity
and phone lines to the paradise isle. The islands development
has continued, but due to the lush rainforests and mountains
the original beauty is kept intact and on show to all who
visit. However an excellent road from Bangkok and a new flight
to Trat airport, have meant the destination is now starting
to get the attention that it deserves The many beaches on
the western coast continually attract tourists from all over
the globe. Koh Chang has spectacular waterfalls where you
can swim, relax and enjoy the splendour of the natural surroundings
of flora and rainforest.
The
largest of the mountains is Salek Phet, which stands 744 meters.
The island`s thick rainforest is home to many species including
macaque monkeys, barking deer and wild pig. Elephant riding
is an enjoyable and popular day trip especially when its
their bath time prepare to get wet!!
The
picturesque east coast is much less developed and still holds
many characteristics of typical Thai living. Many locals still
fish, farm and enjoy life as they have always lived before
tourists became aware of the beauty of Koh Chang.
Many
activities are available including diving, trekking, sailing,
and cooking courses. There are also many spas and saunas on
the island.
Whatever
you are seeking in your holiday you are sure to find it on
KOH CHANG!!

By
Bus
There are many ways to get to Koh Chang by bus. The air conditioned
(blue and white) government licensed buses tend to be more
reliable than the coaches that run from Khao Sarn's famous
backpacker area.
The government licensed buses depart from both the Eastern
Bus terminal Ekkemai and the Northern Bus terminal Mo Chit.
The journey will take 5-6 hours. Buses depart frequently and
the last bus is around 10.30pm.
By
Car
Unlike with some of the other popular east coast islands in
Thailand, it is possible to drive your car all the way to
Koh Chang. There are 2 ferries that provide easy access to
Koh Chang Island. The distance from Bangkok to the ferries
is only 310 kilometres.
From
the ferry piers to 15 Palms Beach Resort & Restaurant
If you do not have a car or minibus you will have to make
use of the public white 'shared taxis' which are locally known
as Song Teaw. When the ferry arrives at the island you will
normally find several of these shared taxis waiting for you
at the ferry point. Although the fees are not always fixed,
the trip to our location at White Sand Beach should be 50
baht per person. The last ferry is at 7pm.
The
accommodation at 15 Palms is on the beach near the restaurant
and bar, the other half on the other side of the road is now
renamed Palm Garden, run by the same management. It has a
decidedly English feel and this is the place to come if you
want to see the latest European Cup soccer match on a big
screen. Stylish red terracotta stucco with wooden detail,
the beachside building is attractive, with a handful of rooms
just behind which have air-con, TV and hot shower. For the
price its good value, but there's not really any proper balcony
-- although the beach is only metres away. In a tumbledown
garden across the road is Palm Garden somewhat of a work in
progress, but good value for White Sands Beach. Pleasant clean
rooms are air-con and have English-language TV, fridge, safety
box and hot shower. Breakfast is not included, but the 15
Palms restaurant has a huge following due to their excellent
English breakfast, as well as some tasty Thai food. The same
group also manages Paddy's Palms Irish Bar, which has rooms
also. A free shuttle transfers customers from the two locations.
Please be aware that 15 Palms is close to the sewage canal
and when there is a breeze the disgusting smell can waft into
the restaurant here, which totally puts you off your meal.
This may affect rooms also, so do a smell test before you
book in!)
