We are a small family run (Thai and English) boutique hotel for families and couples nestled on the quiet East Coast of Koh Chang. Our setting provides ideal family-oriented accommodation for the whole family with a shallow childrens pool and a gently sloping, almost deserted, beach. Our service is great. We go the extra mile for all our Guests. And our food has a reputation of being the best on Koh Chang. We are just a few kilometers from the madness which has become the West Side of Koh Chang. The songtows (taxis) don't run past us; the nearest pickup is 900 meters up the road. We are very kid friendly if their parents are kid capable.

Don't Believe everything you read...... Koh Chang has been getting some bad press about dirty beaches, poor service, high prices and mediocre food. In reality it's not all bad; about a par to Samui and most of the Andaman Islands. What is being described in the rapid developemnt on the West Coast. We are on the East Coast, where you will find a place mostly unchanged in 20 years, where non of the above apply. Funky Hut is a small retreat from that maddness from where you can choose to venture out and explore or just chill out and relax - the best of both worlds.

Comfortable and Spacious Family Accommodation.......
Our Poolside Rooms are set in the garden, round the swimming pool and are just meters from the beach. They are over 4.5 x 4.5 meters, have windows on 3 sides and have their own balcony. The bed is very wide and super comfortable. They have en suite bathrooms with hot showers (powerful) and Western flushing toilets.
Rates start at ฿1,650 for 2 persons.

Our Upstairs Room, room 7, is right on the beach and is totally private, even with the curtains open. It has spectacular views across the Bay to Cambodia and is well worth the little extra cost. It has an en suite bathroom with hot shower (powerful) and a Western flushing toilet. Rate starts at ฿1,950 for 2 persons.

Our Family House consists of our Upstairs Room and the room below and offers great accommodation for the whole family! It sleeps up to 6 persons (minimum is 3) but the sound insulation between the two rooms is not so good. The rate is ฿ 3,500 per night for 3 to 6 persons. Minimum booking is for 3 nights.

Room Cleaning
We clean your room daily and make up the bed. Every 4th day we change your bedding and towels.

For 5 years we tried to avoid getting listed or mentioned in Lonely Planet but last year Brett Atkinson arrived unannounced, had some food in the restaurant, paid and then spent a couple of hours asking questions. The next day he came back, ate some more (paid again) and asked tons more questions. After he wore us out and we twigged he was from Lonely Planet he escaped unharmed but with an ear full. Here is the result of those encounters:

Every year we get requests from "journalists" to write "advertorials" about us in return for a couple of free nights with food They get the same ear full we gave to Brett and a bill if they ask after they have eaten.

As Koh Chang develops (ughhh) things are changing very quickly. Here are a couple of web sites which try hard to keep their information up to date.

Here are some other good businesses on Koh Chang you might want to consider visiting. BB Divers because all the Guests we have sent there come back with happy stories and a good memory. Jungle Way is a good place to look for trekking trips for a day or over night.

We are a Family Resort ideally suited for families and couples looking for a retreat from the crowds. So to avoid any disappointment when you get to Funky Hut...

• We are not a backpacker joint offering cheap beer and food. Backpackers are always welcome but if you are on a tight budget Funky Hut probably won't work for you. A small Chang is 55, Fried Rice is 95 and a Thai Omelet is 105. Your best bet for rooms is Lonely Beach or Long Beach where there are still 250/night deals and a 7-11 to buy your large bottles of Chang, Sangsom or Laukao.
  You can try "The Souk" next door to us (picture on the right) who are currenty (Feb 2008) advertising fan rooms for 500/night. (By the way Ed, it's a bit of a tall story claiming you established "The Funky Hut as the culinary center of Koh Chang" and, as much as we wish you were, you are not on the Andaman Sea. Never mind; the Internet is full of false claims and erroneous information and we forgive you).
  
• We are not a noisy place with loud music and discos. If you are looking for that then again, Lonely Beach is your spot. Sabai Bar on Whitesands Beach also rocks till 2am where you'll find plenty of rooms where you can drift into your dreams to the thump of a million watt bass speaker or two.
  
• We don't have 650/night rooms as listed in Lonely Planet. We did have 3 really grotty Fan Huts which are no longer available. A way better option if you are looking for budget rooms on Dan Kao Beach are the other two resorts just south of us. The Souk mentioned above and Chanarkarn mentioned below.
  
• We don't do self catering and don't allow outside food or drinks in our Restaurant, Gardens or Pool area so if your plans include arriving with the kitchen sink and coolers full of Beer, Coke and soda then better to give us a wide berth and descend on "Chanarkarn" (picture on the right) down the beach. There you will be welcomed by my mother-in-law, Yai Pun, who will pamper you with ice buckets at 15 baht a shot, karaoke at 10 baht a song and fried rice at 150 per small plate. At that price it should be encouragement enough to crack out the rice cooker, clean a few fish and light up the BBQ. Thankfully Pun speaks very limited English so if she can't understand you or you need a hamburger she'll call Oh here at Funky Hut!

Our Internet rates are the same year round - no high season surcharges!
Until the US Treasury and George W Bush can get their act together and behave like decent World Citizens, Funky Hut no longer accepts the declining US dollar. Thai Baht, Euros and any currency with a picture of the Queen of England gladly accepted.

For bookings of less than 3 nights over Long Thai Holidays we add ฿600 per night to these rates at check-in. For Songkran the minimum period for an advance booking is 3 nights.
