Koh
Chang - Quiet Times
Koh
Chang is a place where you can get away from it all,
and enjoy the peace and comfort of nature. The secluded
beaches and bays surrounded by tropical splendour make
Koh Chang the perfect holiday destination for people
looking for an escape to paradise.
Chang
Island is Thailand's second largest island (after Phuket)
and lies 8km off the coast of Trat, the kingdom's most
easterly province.
One
of the island's most popular attraction is it its collection
of white sand coves. Almost two thirds of the island
consists of mountainous tropical forest, which is the
main reason why so few people live here.
Transport
around the island is by cars, motorbikes or (for the
more adventurous) by speedboat. Because Koh Chang is
virtually untouched, the infrastructure provides only
limited access to the stunning scenery that the island
has to offer. However, guided 'jungle treks' into the
far reaches of the remote tropical forestry will allow
you to sample the essence of peace and seclusion that
Koh Chang exudes.
After
taking a bus (or aeroplane) to Trat Town, you can get
to Koh Chang by taking a tuk to the pier at Laem Ngop,
where the Trat TAT Office and ferry is located. The
ferry crossing takes between 30 and 50 minutes, depending
on the beach or island to which you are headed. Speedboats
are also available for a quicker and more comfortable
transfer, but such luxury dose come at a price.
Visiting
Waterfalls on Koh Chang
Khlong
Nung Waterfall is situated near the village of Salakpet,
and is the highest waterfall in Koh Chang. The waterfall
flows all year round, and despite being so exotic attracts
few visitors. If you are looking for your own private
memory of Thailand, why not pay this place a visit?
Khlong Plu Waterfall is located close to Kai Bae Beach
(witch is linked to Sing Khao Beach and Khlong Phrao
Beach), so it is popular and also produces water all
year. Many visitors say this is the most beautiful waterfall
in Thailand.
The small stream of Tarnmayom Waterfall flows with unrivalled
peace and serenity through the evergreen forest. Access
is via the vast Duran Garden, which is worth a visit
in itself.
Visiting
Beach on Koh Chang
Khlong
Phrao Beach is beautiful sandy beach and is ideal for
swimming. The wide beach at Kai Bae is another popular
beach, notable for its view of Man Nai Island which
is frequently complimented by the beautiful sunsets
offering a myriad of colour and light. Kai Bae Beach
is also suitable for swimmers.

Climate Koh Chang is the ideal location for the real
rest as the weather there is very comfortable with the
average temperature not too cold or too hot. Ko Chang
is influenced by the northeastern and southwestern storms.
That triggers limitations to the water transportation
to the group of islands. Between May and October, which
is the period of southwestern monsoons, the west coast
is always visited by storms and thus, not safe for ferryboats.
Between November to April is very safe since there are
quite a few storms. Most of Trat areas lie in the Gulf
of Thailand. This makes the province abundant with tourism
resources. Trat has as many as 52 islands, especially
Ko Chang include sea, waterfalls, and forest. The province
is also the source of red sapphire, fine shrimp paste
and sweet Ra-Kum, a kind of palm of genus Malacca with
sweet and acid taste.
Koh
Klum, Koh Ngam, Koh Lao Ya, Ko Rung, etc. In Thailand,
Koh Chang is the second biggest to Phuket. The island
occupies 429 sq. meters. Koh Chang is plenty of high
mountains and cliffs. The highest mountain is Salak
Petch Peak (744 meters), the second and the third are
Chomprasat and Khao Hom respectively. As abundant with
virgin forest, which has water sources, Koh Chang has
many waterfalls. Other places of interests around Koh
Chang include Koh Noi.
