Pretty much out by the side of the road in the middle of nowhere, Chai Talay is to the side of a private house and a large but not busy seafood restaurant. Simple bamboo bungalows march sideways down towards the mangrove-speckled seafront. A cement walkway leads out over these and muddy streams when the tide is low. The very quiet rural area has a pleasant feel. Lining the walkway but facing towards the restaurant rather than out to sea, three concrete bungalows are small and unexciting, but new and clean. They each have a fan, cold shower and western toilet. No one speaks English, but this is definitely recommended for sitting around and relaxing, or a base for exploring the local surrounds. There is no English sign out front, only Thai, so it’s not the easiest to find. It’s a few kilometres before Salakphet Seafood on the left side, if you’re having trouble most of the locals can point you in the right direction.
