Quiet and unassuming, May La is a good cheapie for those who want to be close the action of White Sands Beach but still be able to get some sleep after they leave the party. Rooms are quite fresh-looking fibro numbers and there's a decent little restaurant that can seat about 20. The best rooms are the sea front ones; the long house out back has quite thin walls so isn't great if you're a light sleeper. The restaurant is essentially a platform on tall stilts over the beach, a wonderful place to hang out and read a book, or chat with other travellers -- look out for the violet painted roof. May La is nestled into a rocky outcropping at the northern end of the beach which can become rocky during low season as the sand recedes. During high season however its pure stunning, and you have a stretch of barren beach to the north between May La and White Sands Resort, perhaps the very last undeveloped spot in the whole area.
