We
have nice clean bungalows and rooms at good prices. We offer
substantial discounts for long term guests. There are both
air conditioned and fan rooms. All rooms have private bathroom
with hot water shower.

you don't want to go to the beach there are hammocks and deckchairs
in both the bar and the garden where you can chill with a

About
northern lights
Northern Lights is a chilled resort located between Hat Sai
Kao (White Sands Beach) and Klong Prao Beach on the southwestern
side of Koh Chang.
Since we are located approximately 100 meters from the main
road it is very quiet.
The
beach Hat Kai Mook, or Pearl beach in English is not a sandy
beach, but do have among the best corals on the island. So,
if you don’t want to spend the entire day snorkelling on a
boat trip a visit is recommended, snorkelling gear can be
rented.

Accommodation
We have 4 bungalows and 4 rooms at good prices.
There are both air condition and fan rooms.
All rooms have wireless Internet and private bathroom with
hot water shower and western style toilets. Most rooms have
a TV.
The air condition rooms are equipped with a fridge, TV and
DVD. There is a large selection of DVD movies that can be
lent free of charge.
Room Prices range from 400-1000 Baht a day, and we give substantial
discounts for long term guests.

Food
& drinks
The restaurant serves International dishes mainly Swedish.
We also serve full English breakfasts as well as lighter stuff,
English pies, Indian curries, Hungarian goulash soup, burgers
and sausages. We have European specialties like Colemans mustard,
Swedish Coffee, kn?ckebr?d and Kalles Kaviar.
We
have a sports bar with 2 dartboards and a pool table snooker
is also possible to play.
Apart from the normal beers and drinks a good selection of
single malt whiskeys and Absolut schnaps is also available.

Other
services
The restaurant and bar has UBC TV which covers Live English
Premier League and Formula 1. Also NBL and NFL, Cricket and
other sports are shown.
Northern
Lights arranges boat trips (diving, snorkelling or fishing)
and can handle ticket/Taxi reservations free of charge for
guests.
There
is no need of going away with your laundry since we offer
that.
Massage
can be provided in the rooms if you don’t want to visit a
massage parlour.

How
to get there
Flights operate to and from Bangkok by Bangkok Airways.
The flights depart tree times a day. Flights to Trat from
Bangkok leave at 08.10, 11.00 and 16.20. Flights back to Bangkok
from Trat leave at 09.40, 12.10 and 17.00.
It takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes to the ferry from
the airport.
Buses
from Bangkok
Minibus and full sized bus services pick up from guesthouses
around Khao San Road and other Bangkok locations on request
and travel directly to ferry departure points at Laem Ngop.
Frequent buses also leave for Trat from the Eastern Bus Terminal
(Ekamai) and the Northern Bus Terminal (Mor Chit). Ekamai
is located on the route of the Bangkok Skytrain whilst Morchit
is slightly closer to Khao San road. The journey takes 4-6
hours. Return buses leave from the bus companies located at
the new bus station just outside Trat.

Buses
from Pattaya/Koh Samet
Daily minibus services operate directly from Pattaya via Ban
Pae (ferry port for Koh Samet) directly to the ferry departure
point at Laem Ngop. The cost is around 650B from Pattaya or
350B from Ban Pae and the journey takes 4 or 2.5 hours respectively.
Going to Laem Ngop the service leaves Pattaya at 8am. It picks
up in Ban Pae at 11am. A return service leaves Laem Ngop at
1pm daily.
To
get to Northern Lights:
Take a Song Taew (Bath bus) from the ferry. Approximately
1,5 km after White Sands Beach You will pass Sky Bay Disco
then You’ll have the new post office on the right hand side.
Just before Dive supply You see our sign and turn right and
follow the road approximately 100 Meters and find us on the
right hand side.

A
smallish guesthouse, Northern Lights is fairly peaceful, and
clearly a meeting point for guests at nearby accommodation.
The extensive bar area has a pool table, hammocks and a TV
as well as a pretty basic western menu. Be warned it can become
quite busy at night and has been known to stay open until
the wee hours. Behind and to the side, a few bungalows provide
accommodation in a more peaceful spot. Quiet, except for the
incessant cicadas, they range in size, comfort and price.
Those behind the bar are the best choice, with balconies looking
out to the surrounding rubber tree plantation, serenaded by
the insects.

Koh Chang archipelagos have good diving and snorkeling with
corals and fish. You can find many diving schools if you want
to take a certificate or are already an experienced diver.

Boat
trips and jungeltrekking
There are many boat trips to choose from around the island
depending if want to snorkeling, day or night fishing. A catamaran
is for rent with captain for daytrips, dinner tour or parties.
Boats from Bangbao have transport service to other islands.
Yachts are for rent with experienced captains.
The mountainous jungle interior of the island offers some
challenging and enjoyable walking.
Waterfalls
The most visited waterfalls on Koh Chang is Klong Plu in Krong
Prao. Than Mayom on the eastcoast located next the National
Park headquarters. Both these waterfalls take an entrance
fee. There are other waterfalls to visit that are free, Klong
Nonsi in Dan Mai, Klongson, Kai Bae and two others near Salaphet.
Elephant

There are 3 elephant camps on the island you can visit and
it is possible to ride the elephants.

If you want to learn Thai cooking you can find 4 different
cooking schools to choose from.

The most shopping can be found on the west coast from small
shops, markets to tailors
Restaurants
and Bars
If you want to dine out you can find a big variety of restaurants,
Italian, Mexican, Swedish, French and more and of course local
food. There are also plenty of bars, small beach bars to pubs
with live music that plays rock, blues and old goodies and
if you want to go dancing there are two discos.
Massage,
saunas and Spas
You can choose different massage traditional thai, swedish,
sport or another whole body massage. A herbal sauna is to
be found at Bailan beach and there are more Spas that can
be recommended for a good price value.
Wildlife
Most of Koh Chang is covered in rain forest that has been
largely undisturbed due to the mountainous terrain of the
island. There are also good examples of mangrove forest ecosystems
where the island’s numerous streams meet the sea. National
Park status was awarded to the island chain in 1982 in effort
to preserve the exceptional land and marine environment. The
forests of the island support a large range of wildlife. A
survey conducted for Thailand’s National Park Service in 1992
recorded 29 different species of mammal on Koh Chang, for
example Stump- tailed macaque, barking deer, wild pig, javan
mongoose and silvered langur. Birdwatchers will be please
to know that 74 bird species were found including nightjar,
pacific swallow, yellow vented bulbul and oriental pied hornbill.
Ferry
service
There are 2 car ferries to Koh Chang, one of them is in Ao
Thammachart and the other one is Centerpoint ferry. From Ao
Thammachart it takes about 25 minutes across to Ao Sapparot
and leaves every 45 minutes and the Centerpoint ferry take
almost one hour and leaves every full hour, during the high
season they leave more frequently.
Islands
around Koh Chang
Koh Kood is the biggest island in Koh Chang’s archipelago
and the 4th biggest island in Thailand, local habitant is
only about 1500.
Koh Maak is a smaller island with 500 habitats and
has about 15 resorts. It takes about 2 hours from Bang Bao
pier.
Koh Wai is a small charming island with 2 simple resorts
with no roads and the island have good snorkeling just outside.
It takes about one hour from Bang Bao with boat.
Trat
and nearby cities
Trat is about 20 km from Laem Ngob, which is the port going
to Koh Chang. There are many markets that sell household goods,
food and fruits. Trat has one department store as an air conditioned
shopping center and you can find KFC in the same building.
Trat has 20,000 inhabitants.
Klong Yai/Had Lek located at the border to Cambodia, it’s
a small fishing village with markets where they sell cheap
alcohols and cigarettes.
Chantaburi only one hours drive from Trat towards Bangkok,
bigger city that Trat with few big department stores.
Pattaya is about 4 hours drive from Trat
