On the pier itself, high out of the water on stilts, Paradise Bang Bao is squeezed in between shops, restaurants and other businesses. Small but charming wooden bungalow-style rooms have hardly space for a backpack, with a fan and bed taking up all available room. The facilities are indeed basic, but the place exudes a kind of charm that was perhaps felt in the Maldives before all the mass commercialisation. The sea at high tide runs directly below the stilted bungalows, bringing with it a sense of tranquillity; and the nearby restaurants offer the best selection of seafood. The activity of the morning dive boats however will ensure you don't sleep too long!
