for some, but many will be turned away from the fact that
the beach here consists entirely of rocks and it's a 20 minute
walk to get to some sand. Nonetheless, staff at this operation
are very helpful and the place doesn't lack atmosphere. The
green weatherboard bungalows are pretty basic but well kept,
with mosquito nets over the beds and shower but no hot water
in the bathrooms. A door at the back opens out onto a mini
balcony which catches the breeze and looks over the rocky
beach and out to sea. Seafront rooms are infinitely better
as they have front balconies and stunning views north of Lonely
Bay. Bathrooms have a natural look with stones set in cement
and a cold shower and bucket flush toilet. The restaurant
is a typically chilled-out area with low tables, triangular
cushions and slow music. The polished wood decking looks to
be a great place to hang out and read a book.

These
simple bamboo-thatch bungalows are left over from a previous
incarnation, but the new owners have added outdoor bathrooms.
They also added open-air dining pavilions, sleek fountains
and a semi-sophisticated bar, maintaining backpacker pricing.
The beach is stony but it's only a 10-minute walk north to
a long, sandy beach.
Pricing,
atmosphere and food are the main attractions here. To the
30 smallish, standard-issue bungalows with bamboo-thatch walls
and half-barrel-shaped roofs, the owners have added sea-view
verandas. More notably they have spruced up the public areas,
adding fountains and better landscaping. The bar is intended
to appeal to young Bangkokians as well as western visitors.
The kitchen now offers much more authentic Thai fare, perhaps
oriented towards the more discerning local palate. A cluster
of individual open-air dining pavilions furnished with low
tables and Thai floor cushions provides a sense of privacy.
Kudos for the bar's music collection, which goes beyond the
usual Jack Johnson.
