Welcome
to.. Porn's Bungalows , Koh
Chang
Porn's
Bungalows : The Resort
Porn's
Bungalows (often also called "Porn Bungalows" or
"Porn Bungalow") is located at the southern end
of Kai Bae Beach (see map for the location of Porn's Bungalows
on Koh Chang: Porn's Bungalows on Koh Chang). Four islands,
Ko Yuak, Ko Pli, Ko Man Nok and Ko Man Nai are situated idyllically
in front of the resort.

The
bungalow resort is located directly at Kai Bae Beach (Haad
Kai Bae), a flat, about 2,5 kilometre-long beautiful sand
beach, which is partially lined by over-hanging palms and
broad-leaved trees. Depending to the time of the year and
to the tides the beach can be up to 200 metres wide.

When
Porn's Bungalows was built almost no trees were cleared so
that there are still a lot of coconut palms and broad-leaved
trees on the extensive terrain. The bungalows, standing in
4 rows parallel to the beach, are all built out of wood. In
contrast with lot of other bungalow resorts there is sufficient
space between the huts, so that enough privacy is ensured.
The bungalows are either covered with the Thai-typical palm
roofs or with normal roofs. All have own bathrooms with toilet
and shower and are equipped with ventilators. On the big balconies
you'll find a table and chairs.

The
restaurant of Porn's Bungalows, which serves Thai specialities,
Snacks and European breakfast, doesnt only offer excellent
dishes and good service but also has unique charm. For these
reasons it has been the most popular restaurant on Kai Bae
Beach for more than 10 years. A big, unroofed, wooden terrace
with two roofed pavilions is situated directly on the beach.
Years ago in the restaurant all chairs where removed and the
normal tables were replaced by other ones with short legs.
You can choose to sit on the typical Thai-style-cushions or,
for those who feel uncomfortable with the Thai-way of sitting,
you can also sit on normal chairs and tables in the roofed
part of the restaurant or just relax in one of the hammocks
...
In front of the barbeque, where every evening meat, potatoes,
corn, fresh fish, shrimps, squids and other seafood specialities
are cooked, there are more tables and chairs directly on the
beach, so you can also eat and drink there with a special
beach atmosphere.

At
the beach bar you have a big selection of long drinks, cocktails,
beer and other alcoholic drinks but also lots of chilled shakes,
juices and non alcoholic drinks can be ordered.
Porn's
Bungalows probably has the most varied music collection on
Koh Chang, from French chansons, Jazz, Rock and Pop to the
latest Techno-hits so everybody will find something for
his individual taste. In addition almost every evening there
are fire juggling shows which are very popular with the guests.

In
the restaurant boat trips and sailing journeys to the surrounding
islands can be booked. Also elephant trekking can be organised
and kayaks can be rented to explore the beaches and the nearby
islands. A table tennis table and a pool table is also located
there. And directly on the beach of Porn's Bungalows you can
enjoy a traditional Thai massage.
The
village of Kai Bae Beach (Baan Kai Bae) can be reached by
food within a few minutes. There you find shops, comfortable
beer bars and restaurants, massage and souvenir shops, supermarkets
and Internet caf?s.

At
the slope behind Porn's Bungalows there is one of the most
beautiful viewpoints of Koh Chang from where you have a superb
view to the four above mentioned islands. Just a few metres
underneath, directly at the turn-off from the main-road to
Sea View Resort, you have a fantastic view over Kai Bae
Beach and Klong Prao Beach to the north.
The
bungalows at Porn's Bungalows are between 500.- and 800.-
Baht per night. Reservations are not possible.

How
to get to Porn's Bungalows
From the piers you will reach Porn's Bungalows at Kai Bae

the beach. Or get the taxi driver to stop at the entrance
of "Sea View Resort" and walk down the dirt road
at the right hand side in front of the entrance until you
reach the beach. Then walk to the right and after about 100
metres you arrive at Porn's Bungalows.
The
Location of Koh Chang in the Gulf of Thailand and information
on how to get to Porn's Bungalows Koh Chang
The location of Koh Chang
Koh Chang, the 'elephant island', is the second largest island
in the Gulf of Thailand after Phuket. It is close to the Cambodian
border in Trat province, approximately 300 km southeast from
Bangkok. In 1982 Koh Chang and 46 other smaller islands in
Thailand were designated to the 650 square kilometre Mu Koh
Chang National Park.
Arrival
to Koh Chang
From Bangkok - by public transportation
From the eastern bus terminal Ekamai in the Sukhumvit Road,
Soi 40, A/C buses and Non A/C buses leave hourly between 6.00
am - 10.00 pm and at 11.30 pm to the province capital Trat,
around 300 kilometres away. The travel time may take between
4 and 6 hours depending on the departure time. The new bus
route 99 leaves at 7.30 am and 9.30 am and brings you directly
to the ferry piers at Laem Ngop.
From the northern bus terminal Morchit there are A/C buses
to Trat starting at 8.30 am and 5.30 pm, they also take about
4 to 6 hours.

From
Trat to the piers around Laem Ngop you can continue the
journey by either chartered taxi or by public pickups (Songthaow).
They will take you in around 20 - 30 minutes to one of the
piers around the port of Laem Ngop 17 kilometres away. The
songthaows wait either at the bus station or at the first
intersection directly behind the market. They leave when 10
- 15 passengers are collected.

including mini bus or full size bus and ferry fees to Koh
Chang. Departure times are in the morning between 7.00 am
and 8.00 am, arrival at the jetty between 1.30 pm and 3.00
pm.

bring you directly to your resort on Koh Chang.

From
Bangkok - with private vehicle
There are 2 main driving routes from Bangkok to the ferry
ports around Laem Ngop, both approximately 300 - 320 km long:
The first one is the Highway 3. At the bypass at Chonburi
you have to turn off onto Highway 344. Follow it and when
you reach the crossroads at Klaeng you have to turn back onto
Highway 3 that leads you to Trat and Laem Ngop. If you want
to avoid Trat and take the shorter way to the ferry points,
you have to turn right off Highway 3, directly after the police
checkpoint, a few kilometres before Trat onto the road that

and travel from there with a different bus further on to Trat.
From Trat to the piers as described above.

From

Information
about Koh Chang
The
Beaches
On Koh Chang there is a multitude of beautiful beaches, most
with hotels and bungalow resorts, some of them still untouched
and lonely. The 6 main beaches of Koh Chang, White Sand Beach,
Pearl Beach, Klong Prao Beach, Kai Bae Beach, Lonely Beach
and Bai Lan Beach are all on the west coast. In addition,
the fishermen village Baan Bang Bao and the beach behind,
Klong Kloi Beach and Wai Chek Beach in the southwest of Koh
Chang and also the whole, still almost "tourist free"
east coast of Koh Chang, are worth a visit. And its not only
the charming beaches but all the many still almost unspoiled
villages and the bays like the big beautiful Salak Phet Bay
with the Long Beach in the southeast and Salak Khok Bay on
the east coast with the best preserved mangrove forest on
Koh Chang are worth seeing. After the monsoon in winter, the
water level is considerably higher than in summer.

Koh
Chang's Population
The majority of the almost 5000 island inhabitants live off
the cultivation of coconut, rubber production, fishing or
off the yield of shrimp farms. Meanwhile more and more island
inhabitants find work in the expanding tourism industry.

Travelling-Time
& Weather on Koh Chang
Koh Chang, like the rest of Thailand, has 2 seasons, the rainy
season here lasts from June until October and the dry season
from November until May. Most visitors are on the island between
December and March, this is also the best time for a stay,
since the temperatures rarely exceed over 30? Celsius. In
November and December it can become occasionally quite cool
because of the wind in the evening and at night. The month
with the most rainfall is August with an average 700 mm of
rain per square metre. Porn's Bungalows is open the whole
year! So those who are looking for peace and solitude will
not regret visiting in the months with heavier rainfall for
it doesn't rain every day and all day long.

Flora
& Fauna
Koh Chang consists mainly of granite aged between 195 and
230 million years. The highest mountains on the island, the
Khao Salak Phet, is 743 metres high.
Koh Chang fascinates not only because of the kilometre-long
picture book beaches, the spectacular sunsets, the enchanting
waterfalls and unique mangrove forests, but also because of
the large impenetrable tropical rain forest, which constitutes
approximately 75 % of the total area and is considered to
be one of the best preserved in the whole of South-east Asia.
In the bays around the villages Baan Khlong Prao, Baan Khlong
Son, Baan Salak Khok and Baan Salak Phet are large mangrove
forests, which rank among the best-preserved in Thailand.
The national park also offers a large variety of exotic animals.
Investigations found in 1992 that 29 different species of
land animals, 61 types of bird and 42 reptile and amphibian
species are resident on the island, among them several Python
types, Rat-Snakes, King Cobras and other types of snakes,
different lizards, monkeys, ant-eaters, wild pigs and bats.
An endemic amphibian, the Rana Kochang (Ko-Chang-frog), lives
exclusively on the island.

Infrastructure
There are two car ferries and several piers for regulated
transportation of passengers. A hospital close to Baan Khlong
Nonsi (east coast) was built, clinics were established in
many of the smaller villages and in 2006 a private hospital
was opened at White Sand Beach. The beaches and villages are
attached to electricity coming from the mainland. Fixed telephone
mains from the mainland are also on Koh Chang and most of
the localities are connected.

The
road encircling the island, which reaches from behind Baan
Bang Bao (south west of Koh Chang) almost to Baan Salak Phet
(south east of the island) is nearing completion and is already
asphalted everywhere. But between these two villages there
are about 2 kilometres missing, so driving around the island
isnt possible. Gas stations are to be found everywhere on
the road.

Post
office
There is one official post office at the west coast of Koh
Chang. You will find it at the road at Pearl Beach, between
the southern end of White Sand Beach and the northern part
Klong Prao Beach. But in all villages there are mailboxes
to post letters or postcards.

Money,
Exchange
There are some banks on Koh Chang and in all villages on the
island you will find ATMs (automatic teller machines) and
also either exchange bureaus or minibuses from the banks located
on Koh Chang. In many hotels and bungalow resorts cash and
travellers cheques can be exchanged, but the exchange rates
offered are lower than the banks. Also it is possible to obtain
money and to pay with credit cards (Visa, American Express)
at some resorts.
There
are several banks located in Trat and also in Laem Ngop (for
changing travellers cheques don't forget your passport).

Communication:
Telephone, Internet
You can find many Internet-caf?s at all villages of the 6
beaches on Koh Chang's west coast (White Sand Beach, Pearl
Beach, Khlong Prao Beach, Kai Bae Beach, Lonely Beach and
Bai Lan Beach) and at Baan Bang Bao. Also some hotels and
bungalow resorts have computers with internet connection.
Meanwhile most of them have fast DLS connections but still
some are made by satellites.
In most of the Internet-caf?s, the post office, in some shops
in the villages and in some hotels and bungalow resorts, overseas
and mainland telephone calls can be made. At all beaches on
the west coast, mobile reception is ensured, as well as in
many other locations around Koh Chang.

Activities
& Sights on Koh Chang
Koh
Chang has various leisure offers for active holidaymakers
as well as a relaxed beach vacation, e.g. snorkelling, sailing,
diving or mountain-biking. In many locations, there are snooker
tables, volleyball fields and table tennis tables. Many resorts
rent kayaks and during high season they and many travel agencies
arrange all day boat tours to the surrounding islands. Cars
and scooters can be rented in most places, which makes the
island easier to explore independently. If you want to explore
the island in a more environmentally-friendly way you can
walk around Koh Chang within 3 - 5 days on the road or small
paths. Also organized jungle treks with experienced guides
can be booked in many travel agencies. And for the less ambitious,
there are small paths all over the island which lead to short
or long walks. At all beaches, masseurs and masseuses offer
traditional Thai massages. In all Beach-Villages, you'll find
small Massage-Shops, mostly located directly at the road.
Many of the big hotels and bungalow resorts have their own
Spa areas. Elephant-Camps are situated on Koh Chang, which
offer elephant-trekking into the jungle. At White Sand Beach
you'll find a monkey school, they have shows every day. Additionally
Koh Chang offers many other attractions including waterfalls,
Buddhist Temples, the national park administration with museum
or the beautiful viewpoints, which are all worth a visit.
Divers find fascinating diving areas off the shores of Koh
Chang and the surrounding islands.

Besides the many coral reefs, sunk warships can be visited
in the Salak Phet Bay (Aow Salak Phet). There are diving schools
at all of the large beaches on the west coast, where tours
can be booked or various diving licences can be obtained.
Also at Baan Bang Bao (the village in the Bang Bao Bay) you
will find some diving schools. Sailing-tours can be booked
in many resorts and travel agencies. Since 2005 there is also
a 12 m Catamaran on the island. During high season you can
do daily sailing-tours to the surrounding islands of Koh Chang.
And, of course, there are some ?Party-Places at most of the
beaches: Bars and pubs that lure guests in the evening with
music, fireworks and fire jugglers ... As you see, Koh Chang
offers enough possibilities for you to enjoy the most beautiful
holiday of your year.
