What
is Tech ?
Tech,
Tec, Tek, Technical Diving = Commercial ?
Technical diving brings people to thinking of the commercial
side of diving. This is a wrong idea.
Technical diving is a fast growing extreme sport allowing
divers to go well beyond the depths of classic recreational
diving !!!
It
is made for people who accept the risks of decompression diving
and who are ready to handle the extra required planning and
equipment to go deeper and stay much, much longer !

Training
at TecEvolution
TecEvolution
is a top of the edge, Tech Diving & Rebreather diver training
centre based in Koh Chang Marine Park, Thailand, offering
all technical diving level dive courses (we do teach recreational
diving for tech courses pre requisites with PADI - Professional
Association of Diving Instructors), DSAT - Diving Science
& Technology and TDI - Technical Diving International.
TecEvolution gives Technical diving and Rebreather courses
on Koh Chang. For people having some time and willing to take
multiple tec courses, we offer all inclusive packages and
scuba diving vacations for deep diving and wreck diving on
open circuit and closed circuit rebreathers (CCR). These scuba
diving packages are perfect for people looking for diving
holidays in Thailand or professional dive trainings.
Tech
Diving in Koh Chang
We organize technical diving Day Trips around Koh Chang and
Pattaya, where you can sharpen your dive skills while scuba
diving our wonderful Coral Sites and our local wrecks or do
some deep sea diving around samesan islands, from 30 metres
to the deepest point of the Gulf of thailand, named the Hole,
at 85 metres.
Exploration
diving from Koh Chang
In term of technical diving and mixed gas diving, TecEvolution
Dive School is a pioneer. Even if it is known that many ships
sunk in the area, up to now, nobody has been looking for them.
This is the mission of TecEvolution new exploration diving
trips. Our target: find, identify and map multiple WWII wrecks
in the area to develop what we like the most, deep vrigin
wreck diving.
Learn
in Koh Chang Marine Park Thailand, dive anywhere
Koh Chang is a Thai National Marine Park. It offers the
most beautiful coral dives in Thailand, in blue crystal clear
waters. TecEvolution is the only technical dive centre on
Koh Chang and is the first to develop deep and exploration
diving on the Island. With a new exploration diving boat to
find new wrecks in the area, and an easy access to same san
for strong curents and extreme diving depths (85 metres),
TecEvolution can offer what nobody else can offer in South
Eastern Asia. Crystal clear waters and white sand beaches,
along with a perfect training ground for deep technical diving.
TecEvolution
can offer all inclusive internships in paradise. Learn a dream
job, in a dream place or take great scuba diving vacation
on the Island, relaxing in Koh Chang and doing some serious
technical diving.
You
may ask "why would any diver want to go in to the murky
dark waters and take extra risks doing so???"
Well
if it's true that technical diving is not for everybody, the
water is not murky and you get to see things only a handful
of other people will ever see.
- Deep wrecks laying there for years with treasure and trinkets
laid undisturbed and waiting to be found.
- It gives you access to the marine life of the "twilight
zone", where you can se species that may not even be
discovered
- To stay underwater for a long time below 30 metres, technical
diving is the only way to go, allowing you to completely explore
a site (Wreck, Reef, Wall) and complete your mission on it
(mapping, research, photography)

During
and since the second World War, many ships did sink in the
Gulf of Thailand, particularly in the South. Now lying in
50 to 75 metres of sea water, these wrecks offer the best
wreck diving sites in Thailand. Completely or Virtually unexplored
(the most dived ones have been dived only 30 times), there
is still everything to discover. Bells & Telegraphs, Guns,
Brass Portholes, are still on them and some of the coordinates
have never been dived.
The
boat has lovely cabins and living aboard her is relaxing and
fun. It comes with an onboard trimix continuous flow blending
system and partial pressure blending system so whatever mix
you need, you've got it. Under the boat you'll find hang bars
with a constant supply of oxygen being pumped to them so you
can relax when you complete your decompression stops. All
in all probably the best place in Thailand to Technical dive
with some of the nicest people you will ever meet. Here are
just a few of the wrecks.

Torpedo
Wreck
The Torpedo Wreck is a 70 meter Japanese cargo boat sitting
upright about 2 hours north from Koh
Tao. This dive site provides ideal depths and situations
for deep specialties and all levels of the DSAT tecrec program.
Maximum depth 54 metres.
Unicorn Wreck
The Unicorn Wreck is a 60 meter Japanese cargo boat sitting
upright about 12 km north from Koh
Tao. The top of the bow is at 38 meters, lots of penetrations
are available for highly skilled technical divers. The wreck
is completely intact with resident monster groupers and big
red snapper living inside. Schools of jacks and barracuda
patrol the area directly above the wreck making for a comfortable
ascent. Maximum depth 50 metres.

USS
Lagarto
The United States of America W W 2 Balao class submarine USS
Lagarto SS-371, has been discovered in the Gulf of Thailand
by Jamie Macleod and Stewart Oehl of M.V.Trident
, Koh
Tao at a depth of 75 metres (225) feet. The USS Lagarto
is believed to have been sunk during a daring convoy attack
by the Imperial Japanese Navy minelayer HATSUTAKA, at 0010
on May 4 1945. The submarine is a restricted war grave and
is being treated with the utmost respect which it deserves.
She is currently being researched and documented by our team
with the permission of the US Navy's Naval Historical Centre.
The exact location of the Lagarto remains a closely guarded
secret.
How
does it work ?
When
technical diving, we use multiple cylinders (tanks) containing
different gas mixes, and switch to different mixes depending
on the depth we are at so that we optimise our inert gas intake/release
at any stage of the dive, and minimize decompression.
As we dive deeper and longer, we rarely stay inside the no
decompression limits, so direct ascent to the surface is no
more an option. That's why we plan our dives and dive our
plan, and back up all our equipment (2 buoyancy control devices,
two masks, backup regulator on the main gas,...) so that we
are self sufficient underwater and can complete our ascent
with the required stop even in case of an emergency.

With
the use of mixed gases Oxygen, Helium and Nitrogen you can
even dive deeper for even longer, avoiding the problems of
narcosis (a lot longer but it never seems long enough). The
deeper you dive the more cylinders you will require however
the benefits from this slight inconvenience is wayed out by
what you will get to experience on every dive.
Technical diving is a great sport and we are lucky enough
in Thailand to have 30 degrees of water even when we dive
to 85 metres. Rarely do you need to use a torch on any of
the 60 metres deep wrecks in the Gulf of Thailand unless you
are into full penetration. Speak to people who are Tech divers
and they will tell you they would never look back. In fact
most give up single cylinder diving to be self sufficient
at all time and to concentrate on solo diving and/or on the
deep stuff!!!
Sounds
Cool !! What do I need to start ?
There
are various courses available in technical diving, with various
agencies. TecEvolution Thailand teaches Rebreathers and Technical
Diving with TDI and DSAT, check out the available courses
and the detail and pre requisites of each course and then
contact us for any information.
